 Categories of Wind Power Maintenance Ship

According to the development of China offshore wind power, wind power maintenance ship is mainly divided into five categories: general maintenance vessels, professional catamaran maintenance ships, maintenance mother ships, accommodation vessels and self-elevating maintenance vessels. Among them, "professional catamaran maintenance ship" refers to professional vessels used for offshore wind power engineering or O&M, featuring two parallel hulls of equal size: good stability and resistance, medium speed, strong berthing ability, large deck area, strong carrying capacity & expandability; steel or aluminum-steel hull with the advantages of low construction cost and operating cost; can accommodate 10 O&M personnel, suitable for offshore wind farms within 10-20 nautical miles from shore.

Wind-Assisted Propulsion Rotor Sail Wind Power Catamaran Maintenance Ship developed and manufactured by Dealfeng New Energy is a kind of professional catamaran maintenance ship used for the operation and maintenance of offshore wind turbines. The rotor catamaran ship has two parallel hulls of equal size with good stability, has good motion performance in waves and good comfort during voyages, can accurately berth to the foundation of the wind turbine at low speed to prevent large impact to the foundation, also keep continuous contact with the foundation to safely transport personnel and equipment to the wind turbine. The rotor maintenance ship is equipped with double main engines and installing one or two rotor sails on the aft deck, which utilizing wind power can provide ship with 10% - 15% auxiliary power without any impact on the safety and operation of ship, making the new generation of offshore wind power plants more efficient and profitable, and helping the ship better to meet the energy saving and emission reduction policy requirement of EEDI, EEXI, CII and EU ETS and create higher green business value in the future through fuel saving and carbon reduction.

 

 

► Configuration of Offshore Wind Power Maintenance Ship

The operation and maintenance of offshore wind farm should consider the offshore distance, weather and sea conditions, unit failure rate, maintenance status, power generation capacity, operation and maintenance economy and other factors to allocate/deploy the service operation ship. Generally speaking, larger-scale wind farms use fleet forms, such as high-speed operation and maintenance vessels, professional operation and maintenance vessels, residential vessels, self-lifting operation and maintenance vessels and other special engineering vessels.

 

The general principle of configuration of operation and maintenance ship is: use general maintenance ship in good weather and close to the shore; use advanced professional maintenance ship in complex weather and close to the shore; use general maintenance ship or professional maintenance ship and maintenance mother ship in good weather and farther offshore; use professional maintenance ships and maintenance mother ships in complex weather and farther offshore. The environmental factors affecting the parameters of the O&M ship mainly include distance, water depth, wave height, wind conditions, etc. Generally speaking, the wind resistance exceeds the wave resistance, so the wave height is a more critical factor. China wind farms are mainly concentrated in the northern part of the Yellow Sea, Bohai Bay, the Yellow Sea, Fujian and Guangdong.
