The first commercial project of wind-rotor assisted propulsion system in China was officially launched!

On September 7, 2023, CNOOC Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. and Dealfeng New Energy Technology (Tianjin) Co., Ltd jointly held the launching ceremony of marine wind-rotor assisted propulsion system retrofitting project for HAI YANG SHI YOU 226 Deck Carrier in the factory of Dealfeng New Energy, which marks that the first commercial rotor sail retrofitting project in China has successfully entered the substantial promotion stage. 

       


Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. is a listed company controlled by China National Offshore Oil Corporation. Dealfeng New Energy Technology Ltd. is a China’s clean energy technology company integrating the R&D and manufacturing of marine energy saving and carbon reduction system. Dealfeng Rotor Sails is a mechanical sail that harness green wind energy to provide auxiliary power for ship through Magnus effect, which is an innovative energy efficient technology advocated by IOM and includes in the EEDI formula. Dealfeng Rotor Sail has obtained AIP certification from several major Classes such as CCS, LR and NK. At present, the system is undergoing CCS type approval. During the approval process, CCS provides comprehensive technical support for product design, drawing data review and type test program compilation. By then, Dealfeng will be the first company to obtain the type approval of the wind-rotor assisted propulsion system and the works approval of the rotor sail material in the world. Dealfeng has the ability to manufacture and install rotor sails with a diameter of 2m/3m/4m/5m and a height of 8m-35m as well as fixed, folding and rail three types foundation. Besides, the whole system of Deal Rotor Sail has independent intellectual property rights, which can achieve the yearly fuel saving of 5%-25% and effectively improve the energy efficiency indexes of ships such as EEDI/EEXI/CII.

 

 

The retrofitting contract has been complete and it is the first commercial wind-rotor assisted propulsion system project in China. The project is expected to be finished by the end of 2023. After installing the two sets 18m x 4m rotor sails on the 'HAI YANG SHI YOU 226' vessel, the annual fuel saving will be about 12% (about 132 tons), and the annual CO2 emissions will be reduced by about 412 tons, which can realize the benefits of the whole life cycle .


Dealfeng New Energy Technology Ltd. will coordinate with the original ship design company and the retrofitting shipyard under the guidance of CCS Tianjin Branch to ensure the successful implementation of the rotor refitting project, and facilitate the green and low-carbon development of our country's shipping industry.
