ABOUT US

DECARBONISATION STRATEGY

IMO adopted the resolution MEPC to approve short, mid- and long-tem measures on reduction of GHG emissions from international shipping in order to promote the peak of GHG emissions in shipping industry and the revised IMO GHG Strategy includes an enhanced common ambition to reach net-zero GHG emissions from international shipping close to 2050. EU set out a package of new and revised legislation - Fit for 55, intends to reduce net green house gas emissions by at least 55% by 2050, includes the maritime transport sector.

Levels of Ambition

 

The lMO has revised its GHG Strategy. strengthening the ambitions for international shipping. The new targets include a 20% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030, a 70% reduction by 2040 (compared to 2008 levels), and the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The EU has agreed to include shipping sector in its Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) from 2024 and on setting requirements on well-to-wake GHG emissions (FuelEU Maritime) from 2025.
